School-Parent Compact 2024-2025

Hayden Middle School and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (participating children), agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and how the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards.

School Responsibilities

Hayden Middle School will:

1.       Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement as follows:

a.       Teachers will be highly qualified as described in NCLB.

b.       Teachers will follow state and county guidelines to implement a quality curriculum.

c.        The school and teachers will provide support and resources through qualified personnel and the use of scientifically-researched instructional practices.

d.       Students will have access to school counselors.

2.       Hold parent-teacher conferences (at least annually in elementary schools) during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement.

a.       Students will have an orientation during the first full week of school.

b.       Parents can freely request parent conferences with teachers as needed.

c.        One day each year will be set aside for parent-teacher conferences.

3.       Provide parents with frequent reports about their children’s progress.

a.       Grades will be adequately updated in PowerSchool.

b.       Parents will be provided information to access the PowerSchool app as requested.

c.        Report cards will be sent home each nine-week grading period.

d.       Progress reports will be sent home in the middle of each grading period.

e.       Teachers will answer emails promptly during contract hours.

4.       Provide reasonable access to staff.

a.       Parent-teacher conferences can be scheduled after school or during a teacher’s prep period.

b.       The teacher’s contact information will be kept current on the school website.

5.       Provide parents with opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and observe classroom activities.

a.       The school will maintain an active PTO to communicate volunteer activities to stakeholders.

b.       Parents are encouraged to contact the main office or teacher to volunteer for special events and activities.

6.       Ensure regular two-way, meaningful communication between family members and school staff, and, to the extent practicable, in a language the family members can understand.

a.       The school will use the mass communication system to regularly update parents on school events, schedules, and important dates.

b.       The school will prepare letters, memos, or other written communication as needed.

c.        Teachers will answer emails promptly during contact hours.

Parent Responsibilities

We, as parents, will support our children’s learning in the following ways:

a.       Participating in decisions relating to my child’s education by staying informed, communicating with the school, and attending at least one parent/teacher conference.

b.       Monitor my child’s attendance.

c.        Make education a priority in our home by providing an environment conducive to completing homework assignments.

d.       Ensure that my child complies with the rules and regulations stated in the Blount County Board of Education and Hayden Middle School Handbooks. 

e.       Serving, to the extent possible, on advisory groups, such as Title I advisory committees and parental involvement committees.

f.         Check our students’ grades regularly through Schoology and the PowerSchool Parent App, sign and return progress reports, and/or communicate with my child’s teachers.

g.       Communicate with teachers and staff through school email or telephone calls and not social media.

Student Responsibilities

We, as students, will share the responsibility to improve our academic achievement and achieve the State’s high standards.  Specifically, we will:

a.       Do my homework daily and ask for help when needed.

b.       Give my parents or the adult responsible for my welfare all the notices and information I receive daily from my school.

c.        Attend school regularly.

d.       Be responsible for learning and good behavior.

e.       Read regularly and routinely for pleasure or learning outside of school hours.
