Tardy Policy

Effective March 1, 2019

Research has shown a direct connection between school tardiness and its impact on teaching and learning for the student who is tardy as well as other students in the class.  When students come in tardy to class, the class must stop and allow the student to get caught up, settled, and time for instruction to resume.  If a student is five minutes late to school or class three times per week, the student misses 135 instructional minutes for the grading period.

To help resolve habitual tardies to school/class and make up lost instructional minutes, students will earn Saturday school when they earn the 6th unexcused tardy to school and/or class. Saturday school meets the last Saturday of each month (the third Saturday in May) in the HMS library and begins at 7:30 AM and concludes at 9:30 AM.  Students who do not attend Saturday school will earn a three-day Alternative School placement.

Students will receive a tardy warning memo at their fourth tardy.
