Saturday School

2/26/2019 updated

Dear Parents/Guardians:

Hayden Middle School is starting a Saturday school program to handle discipline and conduct issues that have not been corrected with previous discipline measures. The current Saturday school meets in Allgood at the Alternative School.   Students may be assigned Saturday for the following reasons:

  1. Refusal to complete assignments after the teacher has made parent contact and assigned the student to Academic Recovery.
  2. Excessive conduct checks
  3. Excessive tardies to school and/or class beginning March 1.
  4. Refusal to follow class, hallway, and lunchroom norms after warnings
  5. As a consequence for earning an office referral
  6. Lying to a teacher or administrator
  7. Profane language
  8. Refusal to complete intervention assignments after warnings and parent contact
  9. Repeated disrespect or defiance
  10. Cheating
  11. Other Class I and Class II violations outlined in the BCS Parent-Student Handbook

Saturday school will be at held in the HMS library from 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM on the fourth Saturday of each month (the third Saturday in May). Students who are late will not be admitted. In the event that we are out of school on the Friday before one of those days, Saturday school will convene the following week.  If a student does not come to Saturday school as assigned, the student will be given a three day placement at the Blount County Alternative School in Allgood (this is just outside of Oneonta). Transportation is not provided to Alternative School.

Parents will receive a notice of the student’s placement in Saturday school, and the student will be told to call home and let his or her parent know of the Saturday school placement.
